As the New Boston Lady Lions focus on continuing previous success, a veteran Bowie county coach has joined the program.
This week’s Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week is Timothy Hickmott, of New Boston. Timothy is an incoming senior at New Boston High School and first time competitor in the 2023 Special Olympics games. He participates in the 50 meter dash and the softball throw in the spring games and will be playing for the softball team in the fall. As the middle of three brothers, his mom describes the 17-year-old as the “class clown.” She says he is always trying to make people laugh with a prank or joke. Before moving to New Boston, Timothy and his family lived in West Texas where his mom homeschooled the three boys. Timothy says he is excited about returning to the games next year to see the new friends he made and winning more medals.
The Maud Cardinals look to continue their recent success on the baseball diamond with the hire of a coach who has seen lots of baseball, been successful in the district and taken home a state championship.
The annual Megan Daniel Co-Ed Softball Tournament was held this past Saturday at DeKalb City Park. The tournament is in its third year and is a fundraiser to provide scholarships to graduating DeKalb and New Boston seniors, all in honor and remembrance of Megan Daniel.
Hooks High School is welcoming home one of their own as 2012 graduate and all around athlete Kendrick Henderson joins the Hornet coaching staff.
