Lions edge Hornets, Cardinals blast Avery in baseball action

In baseball action around the area last night, the New Boston Lions tallied a big win as they scored five runs in their half of the 1st and then scored five more times in the 5th to power to a 12-9 win over the host Hooks Hornets.

It was a huge day at the plate for New Boston’s Caden Glass as he was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of RBI’s to pace the Lions’ onslaught. Lane McMillan was 3-for-3 with three RBI’s for Hooks.

Senior hurler Kyle Atkinson notched the win on the mound for New Boston. Atkinson allowed six runs on five hots and struck out nine in four plus innings of work. Connor Bobbitt threw two and a third innings in relief for the Lions. Ty Thomerson took the loss for Hooks allowing 11 runs on 13 hits while striking out five.


In another big district contest last night, the Maud Cardinals totally tied up the Avery Bulldogs soaring on to a 17-3 win as Cardinal Haylon Dear tallied seven RBI’s in the game to lead Maud.

Tucker Sanders notched the win on the hill for Maud as he allowed no runs on just two hits and struck out five. Aidan Cantrell took the loss for Avery allowing 11 runs on ten hits.

At the plate, Sanders and Cason Lamb each had three RBI performances to go along with Dear’s seven and Evan Acosta added a pair of RBI’s of his own to the tally.


The James Bowie Pirates scored seven times in the 4th and added three more in the 5th to take an 11-6 win over Avinger.

Brandon Obenoskey earned the win on the mound for the Pirates. The hurler allowed just four runs on four hits and struck out six in his six innings on the hill.

Slade Burnett was the big bat for James Bowie as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI’s in the game.
