Cardinals shut down Pirates, Lions clinch playoff spot
In a huge district rivalry game, the Maud Cardinals walked away with a big win last night, downing a tough James Bowie Pirates squad 8-2.
Tucker Sanders earned the win on the mound for the Cards, as he held the Pirates to just two runs on six hits and struck out seven. Senior Whitt Rogers took the loss for James Bowie allowing seven runs on three hits while striking out three.
Cason Lamb and Nate Brower at the big bats for the Cardinals. Lamb was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s in the game and Brower was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI’s.
In other baseball action Tuesday night, the DeKalb Bears were edged 8-7 by Queen City, the Hooks Hornets were beaten 5-1 by Atlanta, and senior Kyle Atkinson earned the win on the hill as the New Boston Lions edged out Paul Pewitt by a score of 2-1. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Lions.
