Boy's basketball playoff preview

With the regular season of boy’s high school basketball coming to a close this past Tuesday, it is now time for the playoffs to begin. We will have four teams from our area in which made the playoffs, Avery, New Boston, Hooks, and De Kalb.

 

The De Kalb Bears have been on fire since before the second half of district. They come away with a 9-3 record in district. They have been led by point guard, AJ Burgin, and high flyer, Timon Proby. They will be facing off against the Mount Vernon Tigers who held an 8-4 record in district while placing third. The game will be held at Prairiland High School on Tuesday, February 25th at 6:30 P.M.

 

Coming in third in district 14 conference 3A was the Hooks Hornets. The Hornets held an 8-4 record throughout district. The team was led by three seniors, Joseph Davis, Jamaline Johnson, and Marquiz Estell. The Hornets will battling it out against the Winnisboro Raiders who came in second in their district while also holding an 8-4 record. The game will be at Hughes Springs High School on Tuesday, February 25th at 6 P.M.

 

The New Boston Lions held a 7-5 record throughout district coming fourth place to make the playoffs. They are led by a starting rotation full of juniors that has switched around a few times throughout the year. They will be going against the Tigers of Commerce who went undefeated in district with a 12-0 record. They will be playing at Mount Vernon High School on Tuesday, February 25th at 7:30 P.M.

 

Rounding out our teams is the Avery Bulldogs. The boys from Avery held their own and came out of district with a 7-3 record and a second place seeding. They were led by a pair of seniors, Jerry Don Crouch and Jerid Crouch. They will be playing against the Miller Grove Hornets.

The Hornets are coming out of their district placing third. The game will be held at Paris High School on Tuesday, February 25th at 6:30 P.M.
