The Avery Lady Bulldogs are the Dairy Queen Player of the Week

The Avery Lady Bulldogs are our final Dairy Queen Player of the Week selection for 2019.

They earn the honor by completing a season that saw them go undefeated in both 1A and 2A districts and reaching the Regional Semi-Finals for the second year in a row, one of the top 16 teams in the State of Texas both this year and last.

Congratulations to each of them, and their coaches Brett Harp and Whitney Kelsoe.

*Publisher’s Note:

I have known almost all of these young ladies since they were small children, some even since the day they were born. I remember the day Riley Gilreath came home as a newborn. I remember the Lamon girls as little ones at church. The first time I remember seeing Taylor Williams, she was about 3 feet tall and my daughters were babysitting her and her older brother John Michael. Julianna Burkett spent many hours in my house as my wife babysat her, and so did my daughters later on. I recall first seeing Carley Westbrook as she ran cross country, many years ago. She has always been a runner, and now a State level runner. I still have a photo on my phone, of this skinny, little redhead in a blue little league uniform, and several more of Jaycee Clark.

To the seniors, Jaycee, Carley, Briana, Taylor and Emily, what you have done is truly a remarkable feat. Leading your team to the round of 16 two years in a row is a memory that you should carry all of the days of your life. Remember the highs, revel in the championships, and remember the lows too, because all of it combined make you the champions that you are today. Hold your heads up high. Pay no attention to those who serve themselves and are not honest with their votes. You are all Most Valuable Players.

Congratulations to the Avery Lady Bulldogs.
