DONALD LEE MITCHELL

Donald Lee Mitchell was part of a dying breed of men. The ones who believed their handshake was their word and sealed an agreement. Don Mitchell had a big heart and left an impression everywhere he went. Donald Lee Mitchell, age 74, of Texarkana, Texas, died Saturday, May, 13, 2023.

He was born August 11, 1948, in Olton, Tx, to Melvin and Ester (Walters) Mitchell. He was a proud Civil Service retiree. He proudly worked for 43 years at Red River Army Depot as a CNC Machinest Programmer where he made himself an invaluable employee. He was a devout husband to his wife Penny Carrol (Grider) Mitchell. He was the proud father of William Joseph Mitchell, Donna Beth Duncan, Brandy Smith, Brandon Morgan, and Bridgett Morgan along with 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He enjoyed fishing off his boat, family BBQ, and spending time with his wife Penny.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Slayton Mitchell; mother, Esther Marie (Walters) Mitchell; and brother Devin Kent Mitchell.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Penny Mitchell; his children William, wife Danielle Mitchell of Hooks, Texas; Donna Duncan, fiancé Paige Jones of New Boston, Texas; son-in-law Christopher Duncan of Hooks, Texas ; a son Brandon Morgan of Indiana; daughter, Bridgett Morgan of Indiana; grandchildren; Karlee Beth Mitchell, D’Anna Pearson, Ethan Mitchell, Micah Cooper, Calvin Duncan, Lillian Cooper, Jude Duncan, Rochelle Duncan, Nathan Smith, Bethany McKee, Dustin McKee, Alejandro Morgan, Marcos Morgan; a great granddaughter Elora Smith; a sister, Melva Batts, her husband, Keith Batts of Hooks, Texas; a brother, Dewayne Mitchell, his wife Betty Mitchell of Longview, Texas; along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, distant family and close friends.

Services will be 11:00 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Myrtle Springs Baptist Church in Hooks, Texas with Dewayne Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Hooks, Texas under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Myrtle Spring Baptist Church in Hooks, Texas.
