Dennis Ray Wages

Dennis Ray Wages, age 73, of Hooks, TX passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at a local hospital.

He was born on January 3, 1948 to Gordon Wages and Nadine Lofton in Ferriday, Louisiana.

He was retired from Red River Army Depot after working 25 years as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic.

He was a 1968 graduate from Buckeye High School in Deville, Louisiana and while in high school broke 2 state records in track and field for the 440 relays.

After graduation he was drafted and served in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the Battery C 4th Battalion 60th Artillery Division of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Wages was a member of Masonic Lodge #463 of Atlanta, TX; a 32nd Degree Mason; a Shriner and served a few years with the Hooks, TX Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed the outdoors especially camping and fishing at Lake Fork. He also loved to sing and play his guitar and even won several talent shows in high school as well as being invited to sing with Ray Price at the Louisiana Hayride. He also performed on stage several times at the Oaklawn Opry in Texarkana, TX.

Dennis leaves behind his fiance’ Denise Thornburg of Hooks, TX, son Shane Wages and wife Paige of Pittsburg, TX; Aaron Holt, of New Boston, TX; three grandchildren, Trevor Hutchison, Allison Brook Wages, and Karli Rose Wages.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel in Nash, TX. Burial was at Memory Park Cemetery in Longview, TX.
