What’s happening at the American Legion Post 488 New Boston Sundays – 12pm – 10 pm Pool Tournament 4pm Mondays – Closed Tuesday – Friday – Open 2pm – 12 am Saturday – 2pm to 1 am Wednesday – Over 50 Dart Tournament starts 7:15 pm Thursdays – Dart Tournament starts 7:30 pm and Pool Tournament starting at 7:15pm Fridays - Pool Tournament start 7:15pm Saturdays - live band and dance 8:00pm It’s time again to come together for the Western Bowie County Retired Teachers Association for the 2022-23 year. Come and join us for fellowship, updates to legislation, informational topics, and guest speakers. We will be meeting: March 27-Little Country Greenhouse, April 24-Celebrate We have several projects that we will be involved in including “Walk Across texas and “The Childrens Book project” where we will read to kindergarten classes and distribute books to the students. This year’s schools involved include Hooks, New Boston and Redwater. - Melissa Raney Plan now to attend the monthly genealogy meeting, on Monday, March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Red River County Chamber of Commerce meeting room on the square in Clarksville. Jim Thornhill, of Royce City, noted speaker and lecturer, will be present to speak on Federal Census Research. Thornhill, who is a native Texan and a life-long Dallas area resident, has been researching his family’s history for 20 years, five of those as a professional genealogist. Jim is chief researcher for Heroes of the Past, a company that seeks to delight clients, provide context in our ancestor’s lives, and show how we all have Heroes in our Pasts. Jim is a graduate of the ProGen professional genealogy course, the Genealogy Proof course, Texas Institute for Genealogical Research and was awarded the Birdie Monk Holsclaw Scholarship to the Institute for Genealogical and Historical Research in Athens Georgia, and won first place in the Professional writing category for the Texas State Genealogical Society. Jim has written articles for the Dallas Genealogical Society’s e-news and Stirpes, the Journal of the Texas State Genealogical Society. Operation Christmas Child’s Semi-Annual Garage Sale Needs Your Donations Operation Christmas Child’s (OCC) semi-annual garage sale will be held Friday, March 24, 8AM – 5PM, & Saturday, March 25, 8AM – 1PM in the Family Activity Building (FAB) of the First Baptist Church in Nashville (College & 2nd Streets). In order for this garage sale to be successful, we need your donations of no longer wanted but still usable furniture, tools, dishes, lamps, decorations, art, collectables, electronics, toys, jewelry, books, clothing, etc. OCC volunteers will accept your donations at the FAB, Monday – Thursday, March 20 - 23, 10AM – 2PM. Please mark your calendar with the donation times and especially the garage sale times. Thanks for your generous donations which will go toward helping children in need around the world.
