Redwater High School Senior named Questbridge National College Match Finalist

Cort Tittle, Redwater High School senior, has been selected as one of an estimated 6,000 high-achieving high school senior finalists for consideration to receive a full four-year scholarship to one of the nation’s top colleges. Almost 20,000 students applied for the Quest-Bridge National College Match program. The 1,700 winners will be announced in December.

This coming Sunday, November 5, residents from around DeKalb will have the opportunity to invest in their community at a fundraising event geared toward taking a bite out of crime. The DeKalb Police Department will be adding an officer to their roster with the addition of Dokk, a drug sniffing K-9 officer. The Drug Awareness Benefit is slated for Sunday night, starting at 5 p.m., at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in DeKalb. The night will include a meal and an auction, and it is not too late for the public to get involved. Aside from attending the event on Saturday, you can make a donation in money or an auction item by contacting event coordinator Jody Crouch, or by going by Jody’s Flower downtown. According to a report authored by the University of Texas, “Methamphetamine is the top drug threat reported by the three DEA Field Divisions that cover Texas. Methamphetamine and cocaine problems continue to increase, with no FDA-approved Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) available.

Bowie County 2022 sales tax returns continue ahead of 2022

Bowie County will see another increase in sales tax returns this month from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in August by businesses that report tax monthly. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced Wednesday, Oct. 12 he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.06 billion in local sales tax allocations for October, 17.4% more than in October 2021.
