The Gym in DeKalb offers a variety of ways for locals to workout and live healthy
There is a new place to workout in De Kalb. Just North of Highway 82 is “The Gym in De Kalb” which opened their doors on February 1 of 2020. Since opening they have made improvements and have added more equipment as well.
Opening a gym in De Kalb was not something that owner Leah White had always dreamed of, but something definitely in God’s will now.
Leah states, “I was staying at home and homeschooling mine and my husband’s kids until 2017, and after that I decided that I wanted to go back to work. This was put on hold for a little bit due to being diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2019 after the cancer, I went to work at De Kalb Physical Therapy, and heard from customers how they wish they did not have to drive very far to go exercise. After much thought and praying, I believe that it was God’s will for me to open a gym here in De Kalb.”
Inside the gym you will find several treadmills, ellipticals, a row machine, several free weights, dumbbells, and other machines to help you get in shape or lose those holiday pounds.
The new gym also has one tanning bed along with one infrared sauna. They offer a few different options for working out at the gym. A one-year contract for an individual will be $35/month, or you can choose to do a family package charging $30/month per adult and $10/month for ages 15-18. You can also choose to do a monthly contract instead for $5 more a month.
To include the sauna in your membership it will cost an extra $20 per month. To add the tanning bed to your package will cost an extra $15 per month. They even have options for people who would rather just pay when you go.
If you would prefer a weekly access, it costs $15 per week for the gym, $15 per week for the sauna, and also $15 per week for the tanning bed. For those looking to pay only when you go, they have a day access as well.
A single day access to the gym costs $5, tanning is $5, and the sauna cost $10. If you would rather just tan or just go to the sauna, they also have an option for you. In all, Leah is ready to work with you to fill your workout needs and not break the bank.
The Gym in DeKalb also offers more than just a place to workout, it also offers teas and shakes without artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavorings through Fit Fuel. This is not just some randomly picked products that they are selling said operator Sydney Surber.
“When we decided to do Fit Fuel, we looked at our options for protein powder and tea suppliers. There are many to choose from. We looked at the most popular ones first, but did not like what we saw on the ingredients list or the ingredients of the other products used in their recipes. We wanted to serve truly healthy and nutritional shakes and teas without artificial sweeteners, fructose, and artificial dyes. We began researching and chose to go with Trim Healthy Mama and Pure Boost. THM shake recipes use real food in them, and have a low-fat dairy base that can be substituted with an alternative such as coconut milk. For our teas, we are brewing real tea, and adding what you choose to put in it. We also use real fruit. Yes, it may be more work, but to us the customers are worth it!”
Of course, running a gym is not just a one person job. Leah had help along the way and still does. She says, “My and daughter and son, Sydney and Hayden, have been a huge help. They did all the renovations in a month’s time, and also helped me with running the gym. They are my biggest supporters. Wade Bachelor donated a lot of the equipment that we have up here. And of course, my husband who has been supportive of me the entire time.”
