General Store coming to New Boston

There is something about having a general store in your town that just brings out a little bit of a feeling of history and nostalgia. New Boston has lots of history, and soon they will have a general store as well.
Boston General Store is soon to open at the beginning of November according to owner Noel McClain, who says, “We are hoping to open on November 2. Which is actually a lot sooner than we had originally planned on. We had planned on starting to redo the building in December, but certain things happened with my job. After that, we decided that we were just going to start working on it and open a general store.”

The new general store will be in a building that has been in New Boston for quite some time. It will be going into the old First Baptist Church in downtown New Boston right next to Ar-Tex Printing. The McClain’s have had this building for quite some time and have planned to open a store of some type for quite a while. McClain explains, “My brother and I bought this building back in 2010 and have always thought about opening up a store. My brother opened up his printing business on one side of the building and my wife and I decided we wanted to open a general store. My grandpa used to own the old truck stop off of 259 just outside of De Kalb, and then we moved to Branson and he sold it. He opened a store up there though and it just has pretty much always been a family thing.”

The general store will plan to have a little bit of everything as Noel and wife Amy McClain explained. “We will have a little bit of everything from candy, to old fashion toys, a clothing boutique is coming in, a local guy making candles, a local author is going to have books in here, and an old fashion deli as well. We will have lunch special, and we may even do breakfast as well. We will just have a bit of everything.”
Putting together a general store is not always the easiest thing. They have had some help and are appreciative for it all, “Boston Hardware has helped us out a lot and we are thankful for them. Also, the entire family of ours has been helpful and supportive and we are so thankful for all of them.”

Boston General Store hopes to open on November 2 with their business hours being 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
