The second half of district softball season kicked off last night for the New Boston Lady Lions and other teams around the area, with a huge contest between the Lady Lions and the Redwater Lady Dragons.

The Lady Dragons took a 2-0 lead into the 5th inning before New Boston’s Haley McAlexander became the night’s star of the highlight reel with an inside the park grand slam that boosted the Lady Lions to the 4-2 district win.

Morgan McAlexander earned the win on the hill for New Boston, going the distance and allowing two runs on just four hits and striking out eight. Redwater hurler Bethanee Calicott took a rare loss allowing four runs on five hits. Walks were a killer for Calicott and the Lady Dragons with five walks and a pair of hit batsmen.

Realignment shuffles Northeast Texas districts

By Whitt Sparks
Tribune Sports

Every two years, on February 1st, high school football fans from across the state of Texas hold their breath to see what district their teams will be in.  For some parts of Texas, like the panhandle or west Texas I’m sure there isn’t much change to the districts year in, year out, but here in Northeast Texas the changes made by UIL can cause a lot of excitement.  This year did not disappoint, so let’s talk about what we know.

We knew that Hooks was going up in classification and that Atlanta, Liberty Eylau, and James Bowie were going down.  So how was that going to affect everyone else?  Well, let’s break down the area districts.
