Bears versus Lions-My Prediction

By Kenny Mitchell

Publisher

What, do ya’ll think I am crazy or something? I used to make predictions but learned very quickly that prognostication and foretelling the future is not my forte.

What I do know is that this will be a good football game.

One of the oldest rivalries in Texas high school football will take to the field at Lions Stadium tomorrow night and either the New Boston Lions or the DeKalb Bears will go home with the Traveling Trophy.

The Bears make the trip down from DeKalb on a high, with a 30-20 win over Prairiland a week ago in their pocket.

The Lions fell last Friday 20-6 to Hooks.  Will that make them hungry for that first win? Will the emotion of the rivalry and tradition be enough to get them past the Bears?

DeKalb AD and Head Coach Eddy May said this about the game.

The New Boston Lady Lions saw their season come to a close Friday night after a hard fought, two game series with the Prairiland Lady Patriots.

Prairiland won Game One on Thursday by a score of 5-3 and closed out the first round series last night with a 3-0 win.

The Lady Lions outhit Prairiland on Friday 7-5 but could not push any runs across against Lady Patriot starter Bri Calabria.

The Lady Lions loaded the bases in the 3rd inning on singles from Hannah White and Morgan McAlexander, followed by a walk to Carlee Ratcliff, but left the bases full.

In all, the Lady Lions left 11 runners on base in the contest.

Estell dominates as Lady Hornets advance

By Kenny Mitchell

Publisher

The Hooks Lady Hornets continued their hot streak into the postseason and left little doubt that they are a team to be reckoned with as they shutout the Cooper Lady Bulldogs in their first round matchup 11-0 and earned a Bi-District championship.

Ace hurler Marena Estell was dominant on the mound and at the plate, aiding her pitching efforts with a 4-4 batting performance. Estell narrowly missed hitting the cycle, with a pair of triples, a single and a double in the contest.

Abby Russ did get that homer for the Lady Hornets with a shot off the bat of Abby Russ in the 4th inning. Estell, Russ and Korey Brooks each had multi-hit performances for Hooks.

On the mound, Estell allowed just one hit and a walk and struck out nine in a near flawless pitching performance.
