Beverly Ford

Beverly June Ford passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at her home in De Kalb, Texas. She was 78.

Beverly was born August 31, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, to John F. and Esther E. Brasch Minnig. On October 9, 1987, she was married to Robert Gene Ford in Hooks, Texas. She was retired from Red River Army Depot, where she was a purchasing and contracting administrator and was a member of Cross Power Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Chris Handegard.

Brenda Gail Richardson

Brenda Gail Richardson of New Boston, Texas passed away Saturday, February 11 at a Texarkana, Texas hospital. She was 58.

Brenda was born June 17, 1958 in Morris County, Texas to James Clarence and Frances Elizabeth Starrett Wellborn.  She enjoyed quilting, was a dental office assistant and a member of First Baptist Church in De Kalb, Texas.  

She was preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Jimmy Wellborn.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Bruce Richardson of New Boston, Texas; her mother, Frances Elizabeth Starrett Wellborn of New Boston, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie Miller and Shawn Baird of Hughes Springs, Texas and Wendy and Dennis Morlang of Tunnel Hill, Georgia; six grandchildren, Kaden Miller, Anthony Baird, Conley Baird, Matt Morlang, Kyle Morlang, and Dalton Roberts; two great grandchildren, Jackson Morlang and Nevaeh Roberts; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Della Raney

Della (Tutt) Raney, 97, a resident of New Boston Texas died Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Redwater, Texas at the home of her daughter, Joyce Walraven.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas conducted by Pastor Roy Ford and Pastor Darren Faulkner. Burial will be at Red Bayou Cemetery in New Boston, Texas.

The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.

Mrs. Raney was born in Bowie County on June 15, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry Wells and Cornelius (Cash) Wells.

Laverne Chasteen

Laverne Chasteen, formerly of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at a Texarkana, Texas care facility. She was 94.

Laverne was born August 24, 1922, in De Kalb, Texas to John Edmond and Johnnie Lois Murrell Pickens. She was a Retired Typist/Key Punch Operator from Red River Army Depot, a member of the De Kalb Blue Bells and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Kalb, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Marshall Wilson Chasteen.

Wilma Welch Cunningham

Wilma Welch Cunningham, of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at a local care facility. She was 96.

Wilma was born July 8, 1920, in De Kalb, Texas, to James Vada and Elizabeth Braddy Welch. She was a homemaker, a member of the De Kalb Kampers Klub and a member of First Baptist Church in De Kalb, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loyd E. Cunningham; and two stepbrothers, Marshall and Dewell Trimm.

FRANCES COCKRUM

Frances Jean Cockrum, age 69 of Leary, Texas passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at her residence.  Mrs. Cockrum was born December 14, 1947 in Lewisville, Arkansas.  She was a retired cook at Arkansas High School, member of First Bikers Church and is preceded in death by two brothers, George and Lester Plant.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny ‘Elwood’ Cockrum of Leary, Texas, one son, Shane Cockrum of Leary, Texas,  one step son. Ricky Cockrum of Leary, Texas, four brothers and sisters in law, Freddy and Sandy Plant of Texarkana, Arkansas, Jesse and Fredia Plant of Texarkana, Arkansas, Larry and Vicky Plant of Texarkana, Arkansas, Ralph and Ronda Plant of Hope, Arkansas, one Aunt, Minnie Lee Barnett and a number of other relatives and friends.

Wesley Rogers

Wesley Rogers passed away Friday, January 27, at his home in Simms, Texas.  He was 88. 

Wesley was born November 26, 1928, in Abilene, Texas to Robert Ray Rogers and Melissa Grace Brown Rogers. On September 27, 1949, he was married to Bobbie Townsend in Big Springs, Texas. Wesley was retired from Texas & Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a Trainman for over 35 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII and was a member of the Church of Christ. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, A.J. Randall; three brothers, Billy, Jerry and John Rogers; a granddaughter, Toy Murphy; and a grandson, Jim Bob Murphy.

Ezekiel Harmon, Jr.

Ezekiel Harmon, Jr. formerly of De Kalb, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Englewood, Colorado, where he resided. He was 91.

Ezekiel was born on December 24, 1925, in DeKalb, Bowie County, TX, to Ezekiel Harmon, Sr. and Bettie Lee Harmon. He was the youngest of five children born in the family. He had two brothers, Maceo and C. L. (deceased) and two sisters, Lamonia Harmon Richardson and Elsie (deceased). Ezekiel attended the Garland Community School in DeKalb, TX. Growing up, Ezekiel lived a relatively carefree life for the times. As the youngest child, he was able to tag along with his older brothers who taught him to hunt, fish and farm. To his family, he was known as "Boy" because he was the youngest, but his friends called him "Wild Pig" because of his athletic prowess. He often reflected on traveling around the countryside with his father, who was a Methodist Minister. He valued his relationships with God, his family and friends.

Ruby Pearl Russell Morrow

Ruby Pearl Russell Morrow, 86, of DeKalb, Texas, died Friday, January 20, 2017, in a New Boston, Texas nursing  home.  

She was born September 15, 1930, to Roy Russell and Belvie Lee Provins Russell in the College Hill Community, near DeKalb, Texas.

She was a retired assembly line worker at Lone Star Army Ammunition Depot/ Day & Zimmerman, Inc.  She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Simms, Texas. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Johnny Ray Barnes; her daughter, Shellia Barnes; her husband, Calvert Wright Morrow; Three Sisters: Mary Williams, Audrey Gaston, and Dorothy Borowiak; and two brothers, Jim and Bill Russell.

She is survived by two sons: William W. Barnes, Sr. and Tommy Lynn Barnes of DeKalb, Texas; and a daughter, Charlotte Hawkins of Simms, Texas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Donald Duffer

New Boston, Texas

Donald Boyd Duffer, age 72 of New Boston, Texas passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 in a local Hospice facility.  Mr. Duffer was born October 8, 1944 in Texarkana, Arkansas,  He was a  retired Concrete Foreman with New Boston Concrete, member of First Baptist Church, New Boston, United States Army Veteran and is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Clara Duffer and a brother, Jimmy Duffer.

Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Chris Pinkham of New Boston, Texas, Dyane and Lynn Arnn of South Lake, Texas, two brothers, Michael Duffer and Rhett Duffer of New Boston, Texas, five grandchildren, Andrew Dike of Ft. Worth, Texas, Gabrielle Dike of Huntsville, Texas, Madeline Dike of New Boston, Texas, Ethan Arnn and Lucas Arnn of South Lake, Texas, wife, Pat of New Boston, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends.
