The New Boston ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting on August 21, 2017 in the board room of the administration building.  All trustees were present.  After roll call the meeting recessed to executive session.  Upon reconvening, Trustee Frank Buchannan led the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.  No one was signed up to speak in open forum, and all consensus items were approved.  Jackie Barnwell, NBISD Director of Business Operations presented the board with a budget packet, detailing all aspects of the 2017-18 operating budget, as well as offering comparison worksheets to last year’s budget, and answering any questions the trustees had.  She also outlined her plans to track the progression of the budget throughout the school year and make adjustments as necessary.   Director of State and Federal Programs and District Testing Coordinator Kelly Cordray gave a brief explanation of the T-Tess appraisers system and it was unanimously approved along with the appraisal calendar.  Trustee Lynn Davis was appointed to serve as a delegate in the upcoming TASB convention, and Trustee Paula Turner was appointed to be his alternate.   Dr. Neshyba’s Superintendent’s Report pertained mainly to the smooth start of the 2017-18 school year.  Mentioned specifically was the maintenance department’s handling of mechanical issues at Oakview in a timely manner.  Kelly Cordray went over NBISD’s 2017 Accountability Ratings, which TEA made public earlier in the month.  All campuses met every index, with the high school receiving a distinction designation in English, Language Arts, and Reading.  Cordray also explained changes to the accountability system ratings for upcoming years.  There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned.
