The Lady Hornets took the lead early on district leader Hughes Springs Tuesday night, but a three-run blast from the Lady Mustangs’ Shelbie Fickling in the 3rd inning proved to be too much and Hooks fell by a final score of 4-1.

It was just the third loss of the season for the Lady Hornets, who finish in 2nd place in the 14-3A standings behind Hughes Springs.  The Lady Hornets will head into the postseason brackets against either Cooper or Winnsboro, who will finish in the 3rd and 4th place spots in District 13-3A softball. The Lady Mustangs will draw the 4th place team from 13-3A and Hooks will face the 3rd place squad.

That matchup will be a one game playoff and is already scheduled for next Thursday night, April 27 at 7 p.m at Northeast Texas Community College in Mt Pleasant.

It is a familiar position for Coach Neal Kiser and the Lady Hornets, as they finished in 2nd place a year ago, but hit their stride in the postseason and went four rounds deep before they were eliminated.

Hooks enters the postseason with three starters batting over.400 for the season with Marena Estell at .493, Kenley Kyles at .481 and Emma Farquhar ending her season at .455.

On the hill Marena Estell once again put up stellar season stats with a 17-1 record, 180 strikeouts and an ERA of .748

In the picture, Kenley Kyles, left, and Marena Estell will be key figures once again in the Hooks postseason hopes.
