Norman Loyd Hooten, age 81, passed away peacefully at home in De Kalb, Texas on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was a devoted son, husband, father, friend, and brother in Christ. Bro. Hooten was a faithful servant of the Lord and minister of the Word for over 65 years, preaching all over the country but in recent years Bowie County, TX. He leaves a legacy of love for God first, then family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Peggy Hooten of De Kalb, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Tom & Virginia Hooten of Bivens, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Cheri & Kevin Lancaster of Clinton, Tennessee; Lauri & Charles Jackson of Huntsville, Alabama; and Patti Ulmer of Redwater, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law: Chris & Crystal Hooten of Texarkana, Arkansas and Kelly & Jessica Hooten of Forreston, Texas; Fifteen grandchildren and their spouses: Austin & Nicole Lancaster, Paul & Ashley Gentle , Britni Lancaster & Kevin Pflieger, Benjamin Hooten, Christena Hooten & Will Nash, Caleb and Ashley Gentle, Daniel Hooten, Carli Lancaster & Chad Padgett, Nathan Ulmer, Tyler Hooten, Jessica Hooten & Taylor Keith, Riley Hooten, Colton Ulmer, Corey Hooten, and Wil Hooten; Eleven great grandchildren: Katelynn, Jacob, Tristan, Kinley, Hayley, Layla, Benjamin, Lainey, Jesslynn, Anderson, and Elizabeth.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, April 14, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
Congregational singing will be at 1:30 PM Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the De Kalb Church of Christ in DeKalb, Texas, prior to his funeral service.
Services will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 15,2017 at the De Kalb Church of Christ in De Kalb, Texas with Chris Hooten officiating. Interment will follow at Pulaski Cemetery in New Boston, Texas, under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home.
