Coach Jamey Thomas stepped down this morning as the New Boston High School Athletic Director after a coaching career that has spanned 25 years, with 18 of those in New Boston.

Thomas will now serve the district as the Director of Transportation.

Coach Thomas has led New Boston athletics since 2013 and the 2013 season was one for the books in New Boston, as Coach Thomas led the Lions all the way to the semi-final game in the state playoffs, just one game away from playing for the state championship.

His tenure has seen New Boston athletics earn district championships and successes in all areas of sports and his leadership on the field will be missed.

Thomas said this morning, “I love New Boston and I always want to be in New Boston, I just felt like this was the best thing for me and my family. I had the opportunity to take this new position and stay here and I think it is the right move. I love the kids and I love coaching. I talked to the kids this morning and told them just to keep doing what they are doing and stay focused.”

New Boston ISD Superintendent Rose Mary Neshyba said in a statement this morning, “Coach Thomas will begin serving as the NBISD Director of Transportation later this spring semester. This is an opportunity for Coach Thomas to continue supporting our students and our schools. Coach Thomas has been an excellent role model for our children as the Athletic Director and now his influence will touch every child in the NBISD. I appreciate Coach Thomas’ leadership in our athletic program and I am looking forward to working with him in this new capacity. Coach Jamey Thomas is and will always be a Boston Lion.”
